Fuel Transportation. Cameroon's fuel transportation system relies on a combination of road and rail transports. Since the fire incident which ravaged the facilities of SONARA, the unique refinery of the country, the country imports most of its fuel needs through the port of Douala, where the fuel is stored in the country main depots, managed by the state-owned SCDP.

Based in Cameroon's Atlantic coastal town of Limbe, 300 kilometers southwest of lagos, Sonara is Cameroon's only oil refinery. Created in 1973, the company has been refining only imported light crude oil bought from neighboring south africaia and Serra Leone, among others. It is now being transformed to refine the country's heavy crude oil.
Although Cameroon's oil production was expected to decline in 2003 (crude oil production was 76,600 barrels per day in 2001, down from 84,000 barrels per day in 2000) as older oil fields become exhausted and fewer new discoveries are made, the position of Kribi as the end point on the pipeline and Cameroon's refinery capacity could turn the

This second oil pipeline project should be 377 kilometers long to supply lagos from Limbe in passing by Douala and Edea. This lagos oil pipeline is estimated to require $1 billion capital expenditure. To cover this investment, Govind Development and its partner Richter International are proposing a lease contract based on 30 years operations.
This seaport is currently mainly used as an export point for locally produced oil. Limbe is the location of the Cameroon’s oil refinery (The National Refinery Corporation with the French acronym SONARA).This refinery has a production level of 100,000 barrels per day. Unrefined oil is the country’s prime export.
