Coconut oil processing steps

Dry coconut(copra) – metering and conveying – magnetic selector – grinding – cooking – pre-pressing – cake crushing – two-part screw conveyor – two pressings – filtration – crude copra oil pressing.
1. Measuring and conveying: Use a metering feeder to convey a certain amount of dried coconut.
2. Magnetic selector: Use magnetic selector to remove metal impurities.
3. Grinder: Crush larger copra to increase surface area, facilitate oil pressing, and crack it into smaller pieces.
4. Dry coconut cooking machine: Use a steam cooker, heat with steam, and use a stirring blade to mature the flakes and increase the oil yield.
5. Coconut oil pre-pressing machine: Using a screw oil press to physically extract oil from oil seeds, the oil yield rate is high, the residual oil rate in the cake is low, and the cake quality is good.
6. Double press: Due to the high oil content, after pre-pressing, the cake is crushed and pressed again to obtain the minimum amount of oil.
7. Copra oil filter: Use the filter to remove cake powder and other impurities in the oil to make the oil clear.

Crude Copra Oil Refining Process

The refining process for coconut oil can be custom to meet specific production needs and includes:

  1. Batch Refining: Suitable for smaller operations, handling 1-20 TPD.
  2. Semi-continuous Refining: Designed for medium-scale production, accommodating 20-50 TPD.
  3. Fully Continuous Refining: Ideal for large-scale processing, with a capacity of 50-600 TPD.

The main characteristics of coconut oil refining process is:

  • Coconut oil does not require strict degumming, because its gum content is very low.
  • Coconut oil is highly saponifiable. If the alkali refining is not controlled properly, will easily cause the additional loss of neutral oil and increase the refining consumption.
  • In the decolorization process, the thermal sensitive pigments must be completely removed.
