Absence of antinutritional factors is a key reason. Fish feed producers require higher protein content (min. 45%) and lower fiber content. Sunflower meal with such high protein can be obtained by full dehulling of selected seeds with high protein content (18%) or by applying an additional tail-end dehulling on already front-end dehulled seed.
The startup has created a technology that upcycles spent sunflower into a high-protein, high-fiber flour. Its technology sterilizes, destroys anti-nutrients, and functionalizes fiber in one step. The resulting protein flour has three-times the protein and two-times the fiber at the same cost of wheat flour, according to the startup.
