Cotton seed is an annual plant that cultivated for cotton fiber, animal feed and cotton seed oil. Similar to sunflower seeds, cotton seed has a hard outer hull. Cotton seed oil often used as cooking oil. Cotton seed oil processing is a complicated process that requires rigorous control. Refined cottonseed oil is in orange or brown color. Cotton seed oil contains a large amount of essential fatty acids, so it is more appropriate to mixed with animal fat when eating. Because of high content of oleic acid, cotton seed oil can effectively inhibit the rise of cholesterol in the blood and maintain the health of the human body. The absorptivity of cotton seed oil by human body is up to 98%.

Cottonseed oil is a cooking oil extracted from the seeds of cotton plant of various species, mainly Gossypium hirsutum and Gossypium herbaceum. Cotton grown for oil extraction is one of the big four genetically modified crops grown around the world, next to soy, corn, and rapeseed (canola). The cottonseed has a similar structure to other oilseeds such as sunflower seed, having an oil bearing kernel surrounded by a hard outer hull; in processing, the oil is extracted from the kernel.

Cottonseeds can be once-pressed and then sent to the cottonseed oil refinery plant directly. For the capacity of more than 20 tons per day, usually, solvent extraction method is adopted with cottonseed oil pre-press used to extract part of the oil. The machine has a large capacity and the cake has low residual oil rate and is easy for solvent penetration. The pre-pressing and extraction method produces cottonseed oil and crude cottonseed oil refining.
