One of the common extraction methods is dry pressing. Coconut oil is obtained by mechanical physical pressing of dried coconut meat (copra) or grated coconut meat at a temperature below 60 ℃. The other one is the wet pressing method, that is, the coconut pulp is kneaded, filtered, and cooked until the oil floats on the water surface. Then the water and oil are separated.

The moisture of copra for coconut oil extracting is about 10% -20%, and grinding diameter of copra is better about 0.3cm in diameter, and the granules are pressed into thin flakes to expand the surface area of coconut oil pressing. Generally, the oil cake of coconut oil is about 6% to 7%. The features of oil cake coming out from a good copra oil press machine are the cake is light brown and the highest residual oil is 8%. And, the thickness of the coconut cake is approximately 0.6cm and the fine powder is no more than 6%. That’s what our copra oil press can easily achieve.

Send the copra (moisture 10%~12%) to the automatic scale and then go through the magnetic chamber to remove iron. Grind the copra to small pieces (about 0.3mm in diameter) by using a crusher, and then send the crushed copra to flaking process and press the particles into thin slices. Then, in conditioning process (steam cooker), the materials will be cooked at about 115 ℃ for 20 min. In this condition, the fat cells break down, the phospholipid precipitated, and the moisture drop to 3%. They are now ready for oil expelling in screw oil mill. Generally, the residual oil of coconut cake is 7%.
