A continuous process for the extraction of sunflower oil using supercritical CO 2, featuring multiple extractors, one oil separator and three cascaded CO 2 recovery vessels operating at different pressures, was devised and studied. For every single equipment of the plant making up the process a mathematical model was built.

preferred process for sunflower seedoil extraction. This process leaves a high amount of oil in the seeds, which is wasteful and unprofitable. has SFT developed a lab scale process to extract pure sunflower seed oil utilizing supercritical carbon dioxideand the SFT-110 SFE. This process yields completely “pure” sunflower oil.
Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) extraction of sunflower seed for the production of vegetable oil is investigated and compared to conventional methods. The effects of extracting variables, namely pressure, temperatures, particle size, SC-CO2 flow rate and co-solvent, on SC-CO2 extraction are in …

Several authors [1,2,[20][21][22][23] [24] [25] have reported the extraction of sunflower seed oil using carbon dioxide under supercritical conditions as the solvent. Cocero and Calvo [26
This solubility behavior of sunflower seed oil in carbon dioxide is similar to that of tomato seed oil up to 25 MPa [11]. Del Valle and Aguilera [12] proposed the following equation to predict solubility of vegetable in supercritical carbon dioxide.

Nimet et al. [7], used both CO 2 and propane separately under supercritical conditions to study the extraction of sunflower oil at different values of pressure, solvent flow rate and temperature. From this study, it was observed that the protein content of the meal and the composition of the fatty acids present in the sunflower oil were not
The results are in agreement with those obtained by Kiriamiti et al. [23], who reported a value of 42.55% (w/w). In order The kinetic curves for the sunflower oil extraction using supercritical CO2 and pressurized propane were fitted using the model proposed by Sovová [35].
